The situation here is getting serious and we see starvation around us a lot, and have helped with the transport and coffins for little ones who’ve starved to death- a VERY distressing situation.
An example of costs– to make one copy of a badly needed form costs the equivalent of a loaf of bread, which isn’t cheap, and the costs per yard of urgently needed rope for our new wells is equivalent to the cost of 112 loaves of bread! This is when donations have slowed down to a trickle due to current situations in the UK, US and Europe.
I’ve been trying to reach Dr. Maphosa for more than 24 hours, as he didn’t show up to do the clinic that he usually comes on Thursdays to do. I’m sure that because of the doctor’s strike he’s been on duty almost 23 out of 24 hours. He was on call night before last and we had brought in 2 extreme emergencies which he probably had to operate on that night, and when we arrived there was an ambulance in front of us and one behind, so I’m sure he is struggling to cope. It was too late for one of those we brought in and he died. He may not be able to give the input you need right away. One of the doctors now has heart trouble, and the o ther 3 are trying to cover his duties as well as be on call every night. If he totally is too swamped I’ll try to ask the senior nursing sister at Marange Rural Hospital.
I’m leaving this a.m. to take food to some of the starving in our area, so won’t be back until late. More later.
Regards,
Paula
